For Ukraine, local lore has always been not only a solid foundation of historical memory, but also a form of self-defense against the blows of fate.

  Peter Tronko

Гадяччина - end  songs and legends,  writers and poets, thinkers and scientists, whose names shine like pearls in the treasury of world wisdom.

Gadiatsky region is rich in cultural and historical heritage, glorious history, rich land, incredible beauty of ancient forests, flooded rivers and lakes, hard-working and talented people.

Studying the history of the native land, popularizing its traditions, cultural values acquired by the people over the centuries, today is one of the most important tasks facing libraries as cultural and educational centers. "Without the past there is no future," people say. And this is so, because for everything we have, we owe to our ancestors, our heritage will form the basis of the achievements of descendants. Today, the Lesia Ukrainka Public Library in Hadiach takes an active part in popularizing local lore.

A significant achievement in the field of local lore was the publication of the "Handbook of Archeology of Ukraine. Poltava region", which for the first time collected information about the famous archeological monuments of Poltava region, including Hadiach district. It was prepared by well-known researchers of the past of Ukraine and Poltava region GO Sydorenko, EV Makhno and D.Ya. Telegin.

During the Soviet era, two guides to the town of Hadiach were printed. The first of them "Gadyach. Historical and local lore essay" prepared by Anatoliy Yakymovych Panasenko was printed in Gadyach district printing house in 1992.  The second - "Gadyach. Guide" by the same author - Kharkov publishing house "Flag" in 1985.

A significant event in the development of historical local lore of the Poltava region and Gadyachchyna, including the publication in 1992 of the encyclopedic reference book "Poltavshchyna" edited by AV Kudrytsky, many pages of which are devoted to the Gadyatsky land.

Unique in terms of information is a three-volume book prepared by a native of Gadyach Volodymyr Stepanovych Kostyuk: "Gadyach in an ancient postcard", "Gadyach. Local lore" and "Gadyach. Hetman's capital and incurable wounds of Ukraine". In these publications, the author with great love and respect for the glorious past has collected a huge and, without exaggeration, unique material on the history of his hometown. These are historical facts, postcards, photos. In general, the books give the impression of the author's incredible piety before the history of the region in which he was born.

The source of important information on the history of specific villages of Hadiach district is a number of publications by local authors: I. Chaika "Bells over Lutenka", "Milestone"; O. Kryvka "History of the village of Vepryk in Poltava region;  I. Opryshka "Ordinary Ukrainian village Petrivka - Romenska" and scientific collection "Olena Pchilka and Gadyach"; S. Kharadze and O. Mostovy "The village of Sary. Through the centuries. Gadyatsky district. Poltava region"; Victor Reveguk "Hadiach region in the days of the Ukrainian revolution

1917 - 1921 "," Poltava region under German occupation 1940 - 1943 ", Ivan Chaika" Lutenka from the earth to space ", Alexander Vlasenko" History of Grechanivka village "; Alexander Zasyadko" Famous names of Poltava region "; Alexander Nedovis" Lesina springs ", " The shore of destiny "," The soul leads the forgotten paths "," Grandfather's alphabet "; Lyudmila Gusak" The life of my pearl "; Yefimova "Kalynovy Singing", "Melody of Life", Svitlana Pavlyuchenko "Heroes of Ukraine do not die".

They are systematically published on the website of the Lesia Ukrainka Public Library in Hadiach
